In Conversation with Southwark: Leadership, Growth and the Future of Development

Last week, we were delighted to welcome clients past, present and future to our Bankside offices for the latest instalment in our Lowick In Conversation series with local government leaders.

It was a particular privilege to host Cllr Sarah King, the new Leader of Southwark Council, for her first industry reception. In a wide-ranging discussion, Sarah shared her vision for development across the borough, from delivering affordable housing and strengthening local communities, to supporting Southwark’s diverse economy as the borough prepares for next May’s local elections.

The evening also heard from Steve Platts, Southwark’s Director of Planning & Growth, who offered a welcome note of optimism, highlighting “green shoots of growth” in the development pipeline and outlining the additional resource now in place to speed up planning application determinations.

For Lowick, the conversation reaffirmed our unique relationship with Southwark. Having been based in the borough since our foundation in 2017, we’ve built a deep, cross-party understanding of its political landscape from local councillors and officers to resident and special interest groups.
